

Shu Arakawa


Born in 1977, hand drawing sumi-e artist from Tochigi Prefecture. He is a New Mongolian Haruma-Fuji Academy Arts Goodwill Ambassador, Chairman of SHU YU KAI Association, Visiting Professor of Arts at Hanoi University, and Japan-Thailand Arts Ambassador. He has been gaining attention in recent years. He is a leading Japanese artist who uses hand-drawn ink painting without using a brush. He is a unique sumi-e artist who has passed down the ancient Chinese art of finger-ink painting to the present day through his own unique ink art.
Unconstrained by traditional techniques and rules, he pursues dynamism, strength, and power with a unique touch that combines freedom, boldness, and delicacy. His works, based on the concept of coexistence and prosperity with nature, depict dynamic, dynamic, and grand-scale figures such as dragons, horses, and phoenixes. His unique and original brushless painting technique is unique in Japan, and his innovative motifs have captivated many. In October 2020, on the TV program Tochigi Ula-La, he demonstrated a unique sumi-e painting technique, showcasing a dynamic quality not possible with a brush. He has made numerous media appearances and is the first person to be certified as a cultural meister in sumi-e painting. His unique and original brushless painting technique is one of a kind in Japan, and his innovative motifs have captivated many.
Highly acclaimed both domestically and internationally, his works were permanently exhibited at the Sant Pau Hospital, a World Heritage Site in Spain, in June 2022. At the same time, they were exhibited at the Miro Hall at the UNESCO Paris Headquarters. His works are increasingly being exhibited in famous locations around the world. His works are featured alongside those of Van Gogh in the academic textbook “Traces of Japanese Art,” and are kept in libraries across Japan, including all 47 prefectures, prominent embassies, art institutions, and universities. His work has also been recognized by the Royal Thai Palace, making him the first Japanese sumi-e artist to receive the Majesty King’s Charity Award. A collaborative event with former HSBC Securities CEO Kenichi Tatsuzawa will be held in Tokyo in July 2022 and Osaka in August 2022. At the “Unconventional Art Solo Exhibition,” a total of 40 high-priced works sold out in one go! In April 2024, he was awarded the title of 21st Century Genius Artist as part of the Salvador Dali 120th anniversary celebrations. He has also made numerous media appearances, including appearing on Tokyo FM’s “Yamada Goro and Nakagawa Shoko’s Remix Z” to demonstrate ink painting. In May 2025, he appeared on Fuji TV’s Mezamashi TV program “Kirabito” for a live performance. Numerous media appearances!
His solo exhibition “Hiryu” (Flying Dragon), held at Kuranomachi Studio in July 2024 and December 2024, was a huge success, drawing widespread acclaim. In September of the same year, he performed a live concert at the Danjo Garan temple of the World Heritage Site Mount Koya in collaboration with Tsugaru shamisen player Kenichi Yoshida of the Yoshida Brothers. It was a dynamic performance in front of an audience of over 1,000! On August 24, 2024, he was featured in nine major newspapers as an “artist currently in the spotlight.” This year, from June 27th to 29th, he performed live at the Osaka Expo as an artist representing Tochigi Prefecture. He is hailed as an artist with great promise for rapid growth.

Collaboration/tie-up

Requests for collaboration will basically be carried out under a free contract for both parties. However, we will decide whether or not to implement it based on our judgment. The price and margin for collaborative works will be determined by the manager, Jun Arakawa. Basically, we pay artists 10% to 30% of the sales of their works.
For commercialization through tie-ups, the minimum sales price is approximately 10% to 30% of the total sales price.
